About Us

OverheardAtMcGill.com was started in August 2006, and launched in mid-September of 2006.

We were run by a McGill student, but we’re entirely independent of any formal McGill organization. 99% of our submissions come from students unaffiliated with the site. Almost all of the headlines were written by our editing duo.

The site is a local but wholly-unaffiliated clone of Overheard In New York. It started as a critique of elitism at McGill and as a commentary at how cold and withdrawn people in the McGill community often are from each other. The resulting friction, when strangers talk or eavesdrop, brings comedy that anyone in the community can relate to.
